It was a most memorable day. Lots of summertime heat and southern-style timeless hymn favorites, and the church was PACKED — “Passing the Peace” took a record amount of time to complete (our unofficial measure of are-we-relevant-and-making-a-difference) !! The after-church party was great fun, and featured such Slawson favorites as fantastic southern BBQ, Bluegrass music, and the best salads, sides, and desserts EVER (yes, peaches included) !!
The last day for many things can be wrenching as well as memorable (and this was no exception), but it was also joyful and thankful — for we know we have been much more than fortunate to have this good man and his good wife leading our church during a 5-year period that began in such uncertainty. Fr. Tom was exactly the person we needed during this time, and somehow … there he was, on our doorstep, ready to roll up his sleeves and get to work. His faith, experience, wisdom, and gentle kindness have been so helpful to our transformation (or, perhaps, resurrection), and we are most grateful for his time with us.
We will miss Tom & Sonja, and they leave a big hole in our hearts. But others need them now, and we must do our part to help. We wish them Godspeed and great happiness in their new calling.
There were probably hundreds of photo’s taken during the service and party, but here is a small sample:
